How to style an hourglass body type
The hourglass body shape characterized by hip and bust measurements nearly equal in size, with a narrower waist measurement.
This makes the body appear like an hourglass shape.
Characteristics:

Slightly round shoulders
Bust and hips are of the same width
Small and defined waist
Bottom and hips are rounded
Bigger thighs
Weight gains typically distribute evenly throughout the body
The hourglass body shape is balanced naturally with a defined waist.
The key to dressing this body shape is to follow its natural silhouette by proportionally dressing the top and bottom of the body while accentuating the waist.
Necklines:

Necklines must not unbalance the natural silhouette of the hourglass body by either visually widening the shoulder line or adding unnecessary volume to it (e.g., through embellishments).
Slightly rounded styles are great - such as oval, deep oval, rounded or jewel necklines. Because they are not extremely wide or narrow, they don't draw any attention to them.
Lower and wider necklines - such as scoop or sweetheart necklines, will show off your bust.
Sleeves:

The best type of sleeve is a fitted one. Set-in sleeves work great as they follow the body’s natural curve. If you opt for light shoulder-enhancing sleeves (such as cap sleeves), make sure to balance the extra volume out on your bottoms.
Avoid embellishments, as well as loose and wide sleeves that would draw attention to the upper body.
Dresses:

Dresses for the hourglass body shape should draw the focus to the waist without adding extra volume to the bust.
Nipped and belted dresses are excellent. Wrap dresses are great too, as they create a nice silhouette, accentuate the waist and tailor the midriff without making it look boxy.
If you want to appear more curvaceous, add volume both to bust and hip through ruffles, embellishments or pockets. If you want to downplay your curves, look for a dress in dark colours or vertical stripes.
Trousers:

Wide-legged and loose-fitting trousers that go straight down to the floor are best. Slightly tapered, boot-cut or flare-out trousers are also good.
Avoid pleats, darts and embellishments or pockets around the hips. Keep your trousers on the slimmer side, not too baggy or extremely wide.
Generally, simple and clean styles such as classic bootcut or straight leg are best for the hourglass-shaped body. Wide-legged, loose-fitting, and slightly tapered jeans styles also work well.
Jeans should be mid- or high rise to elongate the legs. Wide waist bands are great.
Avoid low-rise jeans as they tend to make the hips look wider and the legs shorter.
DOs:
Emphasize your waist:
Belts: Cinching the waist with a belt, especially a wide one, helps define your narrowest point and accentuate your curves.
High-waisted styles: High-waisted pants, skirts, or shorts can emphasize your natural waist and elongate your legs, maintaining balance in your proportions.
Opt for fitted silhouettes:
Tailored pieces: Well-tailored jackets, tops, and dresses that hug the waist and follow the natural contours of the body help highlight your curves without being too tight.
Fit-and-flare dresses: These dresses hug the bust and waist, then flare out to show off your curves and create a balanced, feminine silhouette.
Create balance with A-line cuts:
A-line skirts or dresses: These can emphasize your waist while allowing for movement and flow, balancing your hips and creating a smooth, hourglass shape.
Choose V-necklines:
V-neck tops or dresses: A V-neckline helps to elongate your torso and draw attention upward, accentuating your bust and shoulders in a flattering way.
Show off your curves with bodycon or pencil skirts:
Bodycon dresses or pencil skirts: These styles are great for showcasing the natural curves of your body, particularly your waist and hips, without overwhelming your frame.
Accentuate your bust:
Dresses and tops with structure: Tops that fit well and offer structure (such as wrap styles or well-fitted blouses) highlight your bust and keep the look balanced.
V-necklines or scoop necks: These cuts can highlight your bust area without being overly revealing, creating a flattering shape.
Use color-blocking or contrast:
Dark colors around the waist: Dark colors can slim and define your waist, while lighter or more vibrant colors on the top and bottom half can draw attention to those areas, balancing the look.

DON’Ts:
Avoid boxy or shapeless clothing:
Oversized or loose-fitting clothes: Baggy tops, dresses, or jackets that hide the waist and fall straight down can make you lose the natural definition of your figure. Avoid anything too boxy, as it can mask your shape.
Don’t wear excessively loose pants:
Wide-leg or overly loose pants: While wide-leg pants can be flattering, if they’re too loose, they can create a disproportionate look. Instead, go for tailored or straight-leg pants that balance your hips and waist.
Avoid overly long dresses or skirts:
Floor-length dresses or skirts with no shape: A long dress or skirt without any waist definition can overwhelm your curves and make you look shapeless. Opt for pieces that highlight your waist or feature a more structured shape.
Don’t overdo the ruffles or excess fabric:
Excessive ruffles or bulky fabrics: Too much fabric or ruffled detail around the waist or hips can add bulk and hide your natural curves. Stick to more structured pieces that emphasize your silhouette.
Avoid overly frilly or high-neck tops:
Frilly tops or high-neck shirts: High-neck tops can hide your neckline and overwhelm your proportions. Similarly, excessive frills around the neck or shoulders can draw attention away from your waist and create unnecessary bulk.

Additional Tips:
Accessorize with statement pieces: You can use accessories like necklaces or earrings to draw attention to your face and neckline, and belts to accentuate your waist further.
Consider fabric choice: Fabrics with a little stretch, like cotton blends, or structured fabrics, like twill or denim, can provide a flattering fit that hugs your curves without being too tight or too loose.
Play with patterns and prints: Horizontal stripes on the top or bottom half can balance your figure, but be careful not to overdo it. Choose prints that are proportionate to your frame to enhance your natural curves.
